When setting up your Sifely Smart Lock account, you’ll be given two options to register: using an email address or a phone number. However, for the newest Sifely Smart Lock App version 2.4.0, we decided to remove the phone number as an option for account registration as we strongly recommend to use email address.
Here are several important reasons that can affect your long-term access, security, and ease of management.
1. Login from anywhere
Using an email address ensures you can log in from anywhere in the world. Phone numbers can have compatibility or verification issues depending on country codes or carrier restrictions Email-based accounts avoid this issue.
2. Email always stays with you
Email addresses tend to be more permanent than phone numbers. Based on our gathered data and experience, most of the customers having issues with account recovery is because users often change numbers due to switching carriers, losing devices, or lost access to their number. If your registered phone number is no longer active, it can be very difficult to prove account ownership. On the other hand, most users retain their email addresses for years, making them a more stable option for long-term use.
3. Get important updates
Using email ensures you receive:
- Security alerts
- Software updates
- Product updates
- Deals and promos
These messages may not always be delivered reliably via SMS due to carrier restrictions or spam filtering.
4. Fast support when needed
In the event that you need technical support or assistance from Sifely’s customer service team, verifying your identity and account ownership through email is typically faster and more straightforward. Email records also provide a clearer communication trail if troubleshooting or escalations are needed.
5. Recover access easily
If you ever forget your password or get locked out of your account, the recovery process is much easier with an email. Passwords can be easily reset and verification codes are directly sent to your mailbox, allowing you to regain access quickly. On the other hand, account recovery using a phone number can be more complex, especially if you changed numbers, lost your mobile device, or lost access to your phone number.
For the best experience with your Sifely Smart Lock, register your account using a valid and regularly accessed email address. It will provide better security, easier recovery options, and a more flexible user experience across different devices and locations.
